Episode 17: The Empty Nest Video

Our babies are growing up and there's nothing we can do about it.  Or is there?

Yes, it's true, they're prepping to leave home.  We'll always be their mom, but they don't need us in the same way anymore. In midlife, many women struggle with empty nest status. Even though we're still moms, we struggle with our identity. We feel sad, lost, and lonely and we long for the days when our kids were little. It's ok to feel your feelings, but it's important not to stay there. In midlife we can be miserable, or we can choose to see this next phase of life as a new beginning, an exciting time, a clean slate so to speak.

In Episode 17 of Life after Kids with Drs. Brooke and Lynne, we're discussing EMPTY NESTING!

Here's 3 tips that will help you navigate the rough waters of empty nesting:

  • Put more focus on selfcare.  Start working out more often.  See your health care professional to clean up your diet, run the tests, improve your posture- we could go on and on.  Do whatever you need to ensure you are physically healthy and strong.

  • Pursue the activities you've been putting off.  Start a hobby. Take an online course. Learn to speak a foreign language. Learn to play a musical instrument. Take a pottery class. Maybe even start a new line of work.

  • Start connecting more frequently with others.  Go out with your friends.  Connect with relatives. Join a book club.  Schedule date nights with your husband.

Just like anything else in life, when it comes to EMPTY NESTING, you have a choice and you get to decide.  You can choose to feel sorry for yourself and long for the days gone by.  Or, you can decide that you are capable and strong and ready to move forward.  Decide what you want Midlife to be and make it the fun and exciting time that it should be and can be.

Ready to move reimagine midlife and gain some momentum?  First, check out our conversation on EMPTY NESTING, by clicking the picture above to watch this week's episode of Life after Kids with Drs. Brooke and Lynne.  We hope you're just as excited as we are about this next phase of life and ready to write your next chapter.  Because, in the words of Carl Jung...

"Life really does begin at 40. Up until then you are just doing research."
