Episode 37: The Limiting Beliefs Video
Do you hear those voices too?...
"Who do you think you are?"
"You're not good enough."
"You could never do that."
"Why are you wearing that?"
So many of us listen to these ridiculous voices in our heads. And, we unfortunately believe them. They're called limiting beliefs. They're beliefs that come to our mind regularly, but aren't congruent with who we are or what we want for our lives. We must have healthy thought patterns and a positive mindset if we really want to thrive in midlife. So, this week's episode of Life after Kids with Drs. Brooke and Lynne is all about LIMITING BELIEFS and how to break them.
Here's the thing. If you constantly frame your world and yourself in a negative way, then you'll never be open to all the possibilities available to you. And, you just might get stuck in a life you aren't exactly happy with. The good news is, it's possible to remove the power limiting beliefs have over your life. Here are a few tips...
When a negative thought comes to mind, say to yourself, "ok, that might be one perspective, but what's the other." Then present yourself with a positive spin on the thought. For example, if you think, "I could never do that", recognize it, and instead say to yourself, "what if I did that thing" It's all about RECOGNIZING, REFRAMING and REDIRECTING.
Practice SELF AFFIRMATIONS daily. These are positive phrases regarding yourself and what you want your life to look like. For example "I am healthy. I am strong. I am capable". You should say your affirmations out loud every day for 2-4 minutes.
Watch your words. They are powerful. Stop speaking negatively about yourself and your circumstance.
