Episode 52: The New Year Video

How midlife women can make the most of the new year by setting goals, reflecting, and being grateful.

What happened to "Tonight We're Gonna Party Like It's 1999"? and "In The YEAR 2000"?...

Wow! That used to seem so far in the distance and now it's so far back in the rear view mirror.

And we've just entered a new year! Can you believe it's 2023?!  The New Year is such an exciting time.  It's a clean slate, a new chapter, an opportunity to start again!  So in this week's episode of Life after Kids with Drs. Brooke and Lynne, The New Year Video, we're talking all about how to make the most of the coming year.  We'll give you simple steps to reflect on and learn from the year before while being strategic about what you want to build for yourself in 2023.  Some of the highlights are listed below...

  • Ask yourself these questions: "What's this next year going to look like if I want to live better and healthier', "What do I want to build into my life?" "What really worked last year?"  "What didn't work?"

  • Go back thru your goals from 2022 and assess your biggest sucesses and your biggest disappointments

  • IF you didn't hit a goal last year and it's no longer important to you, LET IT GO.  Don't beat yourself up over it.  IF it's still an important priority, think about what action needs to take place to make it happen.

  • Go back thru the photos on your phone from 2022 and recall all that took place.  Evoke a state of gratitude for everything you did and experienced.

  • Prioritize and check in with your values so you know what goals to set.  Know what you need to put money aside for.  For example, if travel is a high priority, put  money aside now and plan your trips for the year.

  • Take time to look thru your yearly calendar and look at tour dates for shows or artists coming to your area.

  • Reflect with your kids over lunch.  Ask them "What is your favorite memory from the year" and "what's the most important thing you want to accomplish in the next year?"

  • Journal through your goals and why you want to obtain them. Write a prayer for you and your family for the New Year.

Remember, we're not talking about resolutions here.  Resolutions don't typically last past February.  We're talking about goal setting that will upgrade your life and help you become the best version of yourself. We're not here to simply coast through midlife.  We're here to be our best selves, seize the day, and kick butt now and 30-40 years down the road.  So click the picture above to watch this week's episode of Life after Kids with Drs. Brooke and Lynne, The New Year Video.  And let's start asking ourselves, what we can give back to the world and how we can live as healthy and vibrantly as possible in midlife.

Today is the first blank page of a 365 page book.  Write a good one.
